GURU

I hardly ever thought that I would be blogging my views about a movie. But this film GURU, which I saw recently, left me with an urge to write down the facets of the movie I enjoyed the most. Right from the beginning of the movie Director Mani Ratnam portrays about the ambitious rural boy, who inspite of being a dropout from school is still confident of making it big in his life. The picturisation of the time spent by Gurukanth Desai in the scenic destination of Turkey is truly world-class, applause to Rajiv Menon for his fine cinematography. Mallika Sherawat looks stunning as a belly dancer and the music for the Mayya Mayya with its Arabian influence definitely foot-tapping. Here once again Rajiv Menon scores full points. Abhishek Bacchan truly gives an enchanting performance in this movie performing a naïve but yet a clever villager.
Aishwarya Rai portraying a girl from rural Gujarat, though looks frail and more sophisticated for a villager, does not fail to prove in her acting. Yes it is true, we can find Ash actually acting in this movie!
Throughout the movie we can see Guru faced with challenges in his path and how in each stage he succeeds only due to his quick thinking and confidence. Guru overcomes the discouragement he is faced with when he decides to do business. He is ready to take risk and business is all about it and he succeeds as well. The film also puts light on some illegal practices that Guru undertakes in order to earn quick money. But this is shown in a very positive manner and it is not intended to harm anyone, It was intended to earn quick money for the himself and for the shareholders and make all of them prosperous. In a country where the government is biased and provides no or less support to entrepreneurs, someone like Guru only can make it to the top!
Then comes a phase of trials in the life of Guru, where his company is sealed, shareholders anxious about their money and he has an attack of stroke. But in spite of all odds, once again his courage and a never-say-die spirit help him to bounce back. Ultimately he emerges as a victor.
I think everyone has something to take from this film. The film portrays the indomitable spirit of a person at various stages of his life and his determination to come out as a victor in each situation. This is something that everyone needs to come in terms with. Challenges, trials, failure, loss of health or loved ones should never be a hindrance. Courage should never be lost. If our purpose for life is right, then nothing should stop us from going ahead. All in all ‘Guru’ has been a thought-provoking movie, with some excellent songs and great Art-Direction. Mani Ratnam has once again proved that he never fails to impress.
